Anne Denis is a pianist and teacher based in Beaverton Oregon. Prior to her move to the Pacific Northwest in 2010, Anne grew up in Buffalo New York. With dreams of becoming a professional musician, Anne attended the State University of New York College at Fredonia, receiving a Bachelors of Music in Piano Performance, a Master of Music Degree at The Ohio State University, and has completed all coursework in the University of Memphis Doctor of Musical Arts program. Anne remains active as a performer and teacher in the Portland area. She most recently completed a two year fellowship (Tholen) through Portland Piano International. She champions the music of lesser known composers and more recently has performed the music of Florence Price in the UK and France. Anne competed in the Brahms International Piano Competition in Austria and has previously served on the college piano faculty at Villa Maria College in Buffalo New York. She was also a graduate teaching assistant while in school. Anne operates a large home piano studio where she provides music instruction to students of all ages.
Anne is a dedicated teacher with over 25 years experience. Her former students have been accepted to college with music scholarships. Her students have been prize winners in local and national competitions and have performed at Carnegie Hall. Anne specializes in teaching healthy piano technique from the beginning, she has had good sucess with retraining transfer students with technical issues. She stresses a well-rounded approach to learning music, focusing on not only technique /relaxation but also music theory, reading, musical detail and interpretation.
